The members of the International Council and invited guests of the Berggruen family meet annually in Berlin for a reception and dinner, rounded off by a visit to a Berlin exhibition on the following day.

On June 15, 2009 the members of the International Council and their guests gathered at a reception at the Museum Berggruen followed by dinner at Adnan. The next morning the Friends of the Nationalgalerie invited the International Council participants to a preview of the exhibition Bilder Träume, with works from the collection of Ulla and Heiner Peitzsch, at the Neue Nationalgalerie. Annual Gathering 2008
The first annual meeting of the Friends Committee took place on May 30, 2008 on the occasion of the announcement of the winner of the architectural competition for the Museum Berggruen extension. Architects Kühn & Malvezzi will redesign the neighboring building on Spandauer Damm, connecting it to the current museum with a glass pavilion. Some 130 guests from around the world attended the reception at the museum and dinner at Paris Bar, including representatives from the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and the Berlin state museums Klaus-Dieter Lehmann, Herrmann Parzinger, Michael Eissenhauer, Peter-Klaus Schuster, Udo Kittelmann, as well as Michael W. Blumenthal, Friedrich Christian Flick, Isa Gräfin Hardenberg, Frederick Iseman, Wilfried und Johannes Kühn, Florian Mausbach, Erich Marx, Ulla und Heiner Pietzsch, Simon de Pury, sowie Rafael Roth, Lord Jacob Rothschild, Julietta Scharf, Bundespräsident a.D.
